We are all aware how citrus fruits are packed full of vitamins, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium. They are also very high in sugar – so managing how much of them you’re eating is imperative when it comes to maintaining a balanced diet. Some citrus fruits are easier to grow than others, and thankfully, two of the best ones can be grown right in your yard. By growing them yourself, you’ll be able to taste the difference in freshness and quality, and keep your body free from any chemical contamination associated with non-organic growing. Here is how to grown your own citrus fruits:

1. Lemons

I recommend buying a baby tree (2-3 years) to get the best results with your lemons. Pick out a clay or plastic pot (with a lot of holes in the bottom), and make sure that it’s a bit larger than the actual root ball of your baby tree (when the tree matures, it may need a pot that’s about 12-15 inches deep, and 17-20 inches in diameter) . Get your baby tree into the pot, and fill the drainage container with stones to improve air flow. Then, fill up your pot with soil. Keep in mind that some soils are specifically prepared for growing citrus fruits, so they will likely yield better results.

That’s basically all the prep you need. Make sure you’re giving it about 8-10 hours of sunlight a day, and watering regularly (be careful not to over-water). Lemons take about 6-9 months to ripen, so when they have a full color and a slight give to their touch – you’re all set.

Or you can grow one from seed.

To grow your own lemon tree, you will need to obtain the following:

An organic lemon since non-organic lemons often contain non-germinating seeds
Fertile potting soil, preferably containing peat, vermiculite, perlite, and natural fertilizers
A planting pot that is six inches wide and six inches deep
A seedling pot that is about 24 inches wide by 12 inches deep
A sunny, indoor growing location and possibly a grow lamp

Follow these steps to grow your own lemon tree:

1. Moisten the potting soil so that it is damp, but not soaked, all the way through.
2. Fill the smaller pot with soil, all the way up to an inch below the rim.
3. Cut open your lemon and remove a seed. Remove all of the pulp from its surface. A good way to do this is to simply suck on it until it is clean.
4. Do not delay to plant. The seed must still be moist when it is buried into the soil. Plant the seed about half an inch deep in the middle of the pot.
5. Spray the soil that is directly above the seed gently with water from a spray bottle.
6. Cover the pot with clear plastic wrap, seal the edges with a good rubber band, and poke small holes in the top with a pencil.
7. Place the pot in a warm, sunny location.
8. Spray on more water occasionally, not allowing the soil to dry out. Do not cause water to puddle though. Just keep the soil somewhat moist.
9. After about two weeks, when the sprouting emerges, take the plastic covering off. If you need additional light for your lemon plant, you can use a grow light to supplement the sun’s light.
10. Take care of the young plant by keeping the soil damp, by making sure it gets at least eight full hours of light per day, and by giving it moderate doses of organic fertilizer.
11. Watch over your plant to ensure it is not attacked by bugs or diseases. Prune off brown, dead leaves when necessary. Use pesticides if you must. Protect your new lemon tree!
12. When the plant outgrows its small pot, put it in the larger pot. You will go through much the same procedure when you re-plant it as when you first planted. Younger plants need more water than older plants, but they all do need adequate water. Don’t starve your poor plant after all that work of growing it!”

2. Mandarins
If you want to grow your tree indoors, I recommend going for a baby tree, the same way I recommended it for lemons. These baby trees just tend to have more successful growth records than starting with seeds. Prepare the pot the same way you would lemons (spacious with rocks, and drainage holes at the bottom), and give the oranges regular sunlight.

Mandarin trees are safe to grow indoors because they usually don’t grow much taller than 6 feet in height. Water them regularly but conservatively, and change the pot to a larger one once the roots grow back on themselves or poke out of your drainage holes. Pick the oranges as soon as they turn orange, because every moment after that means more and more flavor dying away.

Tip: Be careful twisting the oranges off of the tree – you want to make sure the little button at the top of the orange stays there.

I hope some of you use these two easy ways to get delicious citrus fruits on your table without any hassle.

Researchers at Arizona State University have created the world's first white laser beam, according to a new study published in Nature. More work needs to be done to perfect this technology, but white lasers could serve as a potential alternative light source — both in people's homes and in the screens of their electronics. Lasers are more energy efficient than LEDs, and the ASU researchers claim that their white lasers can cover 70 percent more colors than current standard displays.

The researchers also suggest the technology could be used beyond consumer electronics. They suggest white lasers could be used in Li-Fi, a developing technology that uses multiple colors of light to enable high-speed wireless internet access. Currently, LEDs are being used to develop Li-Fi technology, which could be 10 times faster than current radio-based Wi-Fi. Ning and his colleagues argue that Li-Fi using white lasers could be 10 to 100 times faster than LED-based Li-Fi.

For the past 50 years, lasers have been able to emit every single wavelength of light — except for white. The problem is that typical lasers only beam one specific wavelength of light at a time. To create white, the ASU researchers manufactured three thin semiconductor lasers — each as thick as one-thousandth of a human hair — and lined them up parallel to one another. Each semiconductor emits one of the three primary colors and are then combined together to form white. The entire device can also be tuned to create any color in the visible spectrum.

White lasers won't be showing up in our electronics any time soon, however. For this study, the researchers had to pump electrons into the semiconductors with an additional laser light. The engineers will have to design white lasers to run on battery power before they can be used for commercial applications.

This image shows mixed emission color from the semiconductor lasers in the colors of red, green, blue, yellow, cyan, magenta, and white. (ASU/Nature Nanotechnology)

Many of us think of reading somebody else’s mind as a sort of control mechanism. If you can figure out their next move, you can manipulate them or anticipate their future actions.  In reality, it can be far more practical and personal.

Reading someone else’s mind allows you to be there for them, understand their point of view, and relate to them on a deeper level.  Here are 6 easy ways to read someone’s mind easily:

1) Body Language

Body language is another clear indication as to what somebody is thinking. If their forehead is creased they are stressed. How are they sitting or standing; what is their posture?

When primates in the wild show strength, they open up, arms out wide. They stretch out and pound their chests. In fact, their cortisol horome levels decrease, reducing stress. Like wise, if you bunch up nervously your cortisol levels increase. When cortisol levels increase, sleep deprivation, weight gain and a host of other issues can result. Caffeine has many medicinal properties but when abused, it can lead to cortisol spikes, thus weight gain and sleep deprivation may follow.

Thus, you can learn a lot about a person’s mental state from their body language, posture, and energy levels.

2) Watch their breath

How are they breathing? If somebody breathes through the base of their spine it means they are relaxed. If ones breathe is shallow, they are tense. If you want to know someone’s mental state, observe their breath.

If their breathing is choppy, they are most likely nervous which means they don’t want you to know something.  They may be shy, anxious, or hiding something from you.  If someone has a relaxed breath, you know that their mental state is calm which typically means they are being truthful.

3) Read their eyes

The eyes can also be revealing. The pupil is said to be a portal to the mind. Some studies have shown that when one thinks hard, pupils dilate.  Interestingly, when the brain is overloaded the pupils will constrict.

Also with pupils, when you first meet someone they widen. If they widen but then constrict, it means they are not really interested in you. If the remain dilated, it means they are excited to be with you.

 4) Listen to their tone of voice. Not the words, their tone.

The tone of voice can also tell everything. The speed of somebodies voice. Slow is calm, fast in nervous. The words are not as important as the energy behind them. This does not even need to be explained because you know what a certain tone means. But sometimes we must really tune in and listen to get answers.

5) Spend Time With Them

If you want to know what makes somebody tick, spend time with them. Spend an afternoon and you’ll learn a lot. Spend a week, month and year and you might both be reading each others minds.

When spending time with someone, it will become obvious how they will react to certain situations. No matter if the thoughts and feelings are nervous, brave, happy or sad it is won’t be difficult to notice when you know the person well.

This is why it amazes me when a parent claims they did not realize anything might be wrong with their child if the child does something wrong. “Everything was normal” they might say. This is usually an indication that the parent was not spending enough time with their child. If they were, no words would need to be spoken for the parent to know something is wrong.

Other times we might be in a relationship with somebody for a couple of years and still not know what they are thinking. This can create stress in a relationship because it’s hard to know how to act when you don’t know what your lover or friend is thinking or feeling. But still, generally speaking time is a device that allows one to tap into the brain of another.

6) Make sure you aren’t fueling their mind with your energy

Everything depends on you. If you approach a situation nervously, your friend will reflect that tension. Approaching a situation in a relaxed state, we can absorb the other persons energy and recognize it for what it truly is without much guessing.

It is important to note that we all have the ability to ask how somebody feels. Beyond the polite “how’s it going” throwaway question (which is always answered with “good” type response) it is ok to dig a little deeper. Maybe you can try to read their mind and ask a more specific question such as, “you seem relaxed and in a good mood…?”

Open ended observations like that can open up real dialog as opposed to simple customary banter.  As a little exercise, if somebody does ask “how’s it going” feel free to offer up something real. Stop and examine your own feelings for a couple seconds, then tell them. Self awareness is critical when attempting to be more aware of others around you.  The less aware and centered you are, the less you will be able to read another person’s mind.

Women have different nutritional need for different stages in their life. Women that are pregnant in their early twenties to late thirties need folic acid to help prevent birth defects. Women that are going through menopause require vitamin D and calcium supplements to improve bone health. Women are required to take more vitamins due to different changes in our body as we age and go through different stages.

Here are some of the important vitamins and supplement the women need.

Vitamin C

–      Vitamin C helps the production of antioxidant in the body. These antioxidants help remove free radicals in the system and remove unwanted toxins. Vitamin C is also essential for immunity, it helps ward off unwanted bacteria and viruses from entering the body. It is also important for promoting healing and forming red blood cells.

Vitamin E

–      Vitamin E like vitamin C is an essential vitamin for antioxidant. This vitamin is important to maintain the cell membranes and fight off Neuro-degenerative diseases. This vitamin is important for women that have intestinal disorders, but always consult your doctor before taking any vitamin. Too much vitamin E can increase the possibility of bleeding.

Vitamin B6

–      Vitamin B6 is important for brain function and metabolism. Lack of these vitamins can cause anemia. Vitamin B6 deficiency is a very rare occurrence in adults, but it is still important to maintain it. If you do not suffer from lack of vitamin B6 do not intake any supplement for it, large doses of these vitamins can be toxic.

Vitamin B12

–      Vitamin B12 id important for protein synthesis, normal cell division and metabolism. Vitamin B12 deficiency causes anemia. Deficiency of vitamin B12 is common in vegetarian and people that are prone to heavy period. Supplements are advised for the elderly, people with intestinal problems and women that have low stomach acid. You can measure your vitamin B12 levels through a blood test.

Vitamin D

–      Vitamin D helps phosphorus and calcium absorption in the body. These minerals are essential to strong and healthy bones. When the body lack vitamin D, it will start to take phosphorus and calcium from the bones to supply the body. This will thin out the bones and cause bone diseases such as osteoporosis.

Getting all the vital vitamin in your body will keep you in your best condition physically and mentally. Get your recommended dosage from your doctor and don’t forget to eat healthy and exercise.

1. Eating two bananas can give you enough energy for a 90-minute workout.

2. Bananas can fight against depression.

This is because bananas contain a protein called tryptophan, which converts to serotonin. Serotonin helps you relax and can make you feel better too.

3. Bananas contain Vitamin B6, which regulate blood glucose levels. This vitamin will also put you in a better mood!

4. The Vitamin B6 in bananas will also help fight nerves and stress, related to anything from your work life to your personal life.

5. Bananas can help battle high blood pressure and prevent strokes!

The fruit is high in potassium and low in sodium, which is the perfect combination to fight against both ailments.

6. To that effect, bananas can soothe heartburn because of the natural antacid effect it has on the body.

7. Bananas are high in fiber. This can help regulate bowel movements without resorting to laxatives.

8. Having trouble passing your exams? Try eating a banana! The potassium in the fruit will help you stay focused and alert.

9. The inside of banana peels can soothe mosquito bites. So next time the pesky insect bites you, reach for a banana instead of an ointment.

10. As if bananas couldn't be more magical, they can also help cure hangovers. 'Nuff said!

Designer Jeabyun Yeon has created something great. Essentially it turns humans into fish.
“Triton uses a new technology of artificial gill model.
  • It extracts oxygen under water through a filter in the form of fine threads with holes smaller than water molecules.
  •  This is a technology developed by a Korean scientist that allows us to freely breathe under water for a long time.
  •  Using a very small but powerful microcompressor, it compresses oxygen and stores the extracted oxygen in storage tank.
  •  The micro compressor operates through micro battery.
  •  The micro battery is a next-generation technology with a size 30 times smaller than current battery that can quickly charge 1,000 times faster.” – Yanko Design
With the Triton Oxygen Respirator, it might be possible to breathe beneath the surface of the water as if you were a fish. Requiring no bulky tank to keep your lungs pumping properly, this invention of scuba diving equipment is much more ergonomic and organic in design.
The regulator comprises a plastic mouthpiece that requires you to simply bite down. There are two arms that branch out to the sides of the scuba mask that have been developed to function like the efficient gills of a marine creature. The scaly texture conceals small holes in the material where water is sucked into Jeabyun Yeon’s Triton. Chambers inside separate the oxygen and release the liquid so that you can breath comfortably in the ocean.

Are you on a ruthless routine hunt for gray hairs? Get this — there’s often more to the cause of those pesky grays than simple genetics. Did you know that a number of nutritional deficiencies can actually cause your hair to lose its luster? Reach for foods that contain essential vitamins and minerals to maintain your colorful tresses and enjoy an ample dose of additional health benefits.

1. Leafy Greens

Reach for dark leafy greens to get your essential B vitamins. Your scalp relies on Vitamin B-6 and Vitamin B-12 for the production of red blood cells which transport oxygen and nutrients. Hair color is also all about hormones and Vitamin B-2 is an important player in hormone production.

2. Chocolate

Copper is essential to the production of melanin — the source of hair color. As such, copper deficiencies can cause hair to gray. To load up on copper, reach for a sweet treat. Semisweet chocolate packs the power of copper; additional copper-rich foods include lentils and mushrooms.

3. Salmon

Salmon is often touted for its health benefits so it is of little surprise this seafood staple provides a healthy hair essential. The selenium found in salmon helps regulate the hormone production essential to healthy tresses. This trace mineral fights free radicals to boot.

4. Berries

Berries and strawberries in particular — are a delicious way to get an extra boost of Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps produce collagen (found within hair follicles) and fight free radicals which have been linked with the aging process. Additional antioxidant vitamins include Vitamin A (think orange and yellow fruits) and Vitamin E (go for nuts and beans).

5. Almonds

For an on-the-go boost of Vitamin E and copper, reach for almonds. They’re an easy snack to combat the mid-meal munchies and a number of studies suggest that almond consumption can help lower bad LDL cholesterol levels.

#2 How Do They Smell?

Obviously, they’ve got a nose but – much like horses – they also have a special scent organ in their little mouths called a vomeronasal organ, which is why cats often open their mouths when they smell something they like; they’re really savouring it.

#3 What's That Extra Little Thumb Actually For?

Cats have a sixth “finger” on the inside of their wrists that acts as an anti-skidding device. These little brakes are called a carpal pad.

#5 Can They Drink from the Sea?

They totally could if they wanted to. Cats’ kidneys are so cool, that they can actually filter out salt, allowing them to drink all of that delicious salt water. No wonder pirates loved them.

#10 Why Do They Always Land on Their Feet?

Cats always land on their feet because of the Labyrinthine righting reflex. Their little cute ears sense the angle and acceleration they’re falling at, and they then twist their muscles to level their body and ensure they always land in the perfect position. Show-offs.

#11 What Is a Hairball?

A hairball is, you guessed it, an undigested ball of hair that ends up in the cat’s stomach thanks to its extreme grooming regime and are coughed out. Another name for a cat’s hairball is “bezoar”, which, to be honest, makes it sound much cooler.
